Easy Website Design Options for Nonprofits

Through working on projects for various nonprofits, I’ve worked with several different web design programs they used to create and maintain their webpages. From my own experience I want to point out the easiest to use and cut down on frustration should your nonprofit need to create a webpage or develop a site you want to edit yourselves. Perhaps for a special project?

There are many good reasons to use a web design contractor. But if your nonprofit can’t afford it at this time, check out these options. These sites are supportive of small businesses, too, and that’s their main users. (more…)

Energy Efficiency Improvements Can Increase a Business’s Profit

On June 22-23, Acadiana RC&D Council hosted a training workshop that trained 16 energy auditors to help small businesses in Louisiana by conducting energy audits.  The trainer, Dr. Joe Davis, PE, provided information in a practical, accessible way and provided hands-on practice and demonstration.

The project, Energizing Rural Business, is also offering incentives to small businesses in rural Acadiana parishes to obtain an energy audit. Go to www.EnergizingRuralBusiness.com to learn more about how small businesses can save money by adopting energy efficiency improvements. Because the bottom line is that a decrease in utility expenses is an increase in profitability! The project is funded through a Rural Business Enterprise Grant from the USDA.

Working on this project has been a great experience for me in both the design and implementation of the project and my education on the subject.  –Rebecca

Facebook, Nonprofits, and ROI

Nonprofit organizations should use all “free” tools for promoting the organization.  Though you don’t have to pay to create a fan page on Facebook, it does take staff and/or volunteer time to create and monitor the page and that is time not being spent on something else.

I suggest reading a blog post, “Four Reasons Why Nonprofits Should Reconsider Facebook,”  at Nonprofit Tech 2.0 that discusses why you should weigh the time spent on Facebook (in particular).  The idea of considering time spent on social media and “free” tools is worth evaluating periodically.
